Thy Word is a Lamp Unto My Feet Outreach
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. [Psalm 119:105, 106]
1 Timothy 2:1
Did you know there are distinctions among prayer? Scripture isn’t repetitive. Each word uniquely describes communication with YHWH.
THE VERSE
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.
THE STUDY
Supplication [Greek term: deēsis]. Noun form of the concept “to beg, to bind oneself, to petition.”
Prayer [Greek term: proseuchē]. Noun form of the verb “to worship” — specifically, to place oneself “in the direction of” YHWH.
Intercession [Greek term: enteuxis]. Noun form of the verb “to meet at a fixed place, to meet with the purpose to talk.”
Giving of thanks [Greek term: eucharistia]. “Active gratitude.”
TAKEAWAY THOUGHT
Time spent with YHWH — our Creator and Sovereign — is more than a period of time for “making requests.” It is an opportunity rich with worship, humility and friendship; an intentional get-together to be in touch with The One Who knows and loves us. He’s willing to meet with us anytime, anywhere — and He’s guaranteed to show-up!
