Thy Word is a Lamp Unto My Feet Outreach
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. [Psalm 119:105, 106]
Why Should I Seek the Lord?
Humanity is always in pursuit of something: friendship, prosperity, popularity, happiness.
Is the Lord on that list?
A person may think, “Why? I have what I want: a home, good health, a car, a job. I’m doing OK. What do I need God for?” These are real questions to ask.
INITIAL MATTERS
A barrier exists between YHWH and Mankind. Sin prevents having a relationship with Him.
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. [Isaiah 59:2]
Those who choose to ignore what is revealed to all people, are lost — and the wrath of YHWH is upon them.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest to them; for God hath shewed it unto them. [Romans 1:18, 19]
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling out hearts with food and gladness. [Acts 14:17]
A depraved or reprobate mind is incapable of forming correct judgments. The heart is hardened to the voice of Omnipotent Wisdom.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a mind void of judgment […]. [Romans 1:28]
Sounds like alot of threats, right? This so-called loving God is unpleasant!
But remember His characteristics:
- Psalm 90:2 says He is from “everlasting to everlasting”
- Daniel 2:20 says He is all powerful and all wise
- Exodus 34:6, 7 says He is longsuffering, gracious and merciful
- Isaiah 41:10 says He promises to be with us in the deep waters and fiery trials of Life
- Hebrews 13:5 says He promises never to leave or forsake us.
Seeking YHWH isn’t about “getting religious.” Humanity has needs and questions that go beyond “pursued stuff”: the meaning of Life….values and purpose….fellowship and community….and hope. Seeking YHWH not only addresses these needs, but it guides perspective to look past what is only “in this life.” The only sure thing — of eternal importance — is the relationship each person has with YHWH.
PROMISES
Human beings are separated from YHWH, the Source of Life. Unaided by His grace, all are helpless prisoners. Mankind is condemned to eternal death — death because of sin. The penalty of sin was paid for by the Savior, Yahushua, and is available to every person; however, this gift must be accepted individually.
What promises do Scriptures give to those who surrender their life to the Savior?
Therefore if any man be in Christ, let him be a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [2 Corinthians 5:17]
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, making peace. [Ephesians 2:15]
Can people accomplish this change by themselves?
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one. [Job 14:4]
Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil. [Jeremiah 13:23]
How does this miraculous change take place?
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ who liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. [Galatians 2:20]
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [Romans 6:6]
The plan of salvation is two-fold.
There’s pardon from the penalty of sin, and there’s release from the power of sin. Each person cooperates with the Savior and lets Him work within himself or herself. Mankind’s responsibility is to be willing to do what is asked of the Lord. No one is asked to do anything that isn’t divinely provided for. Ephesians 2:8 and 9 say For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.
How can each person have this power to overcome sin?
But as many received him, to them he gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. [John 1:12]
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. [Galatians 3:26]
For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God. [Romans 8:14]
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. [Romans 5:1, 2]
YHWH’s law and YHWH’s grace aren’t mutually exclusive. It’s because His law is eternal and unchangeable and demands the life of the lawbreaker [Romans 6:23], that grace becomes necessary if individuals are to be saved. YHWH’s grace is unmerited love and favor. To receive the Lord into your life is to receive His power for victory.
When the Lord enters a person’s heart, what three things happen?
- Galatians 5:22 speaks of the fruit of the spirit being manifest (e.g., love, joy, peace)
- Romans 8:14-17 speak of adoption by YHWH as His child
- Ephesians 3:15 speaks of membership in the family of heaven.
The Lord can take a person lost in sin — wretched, defiled and condemned — and transform his or her nature. He delights in lifting people from “the guttermost to the uttermost” — from the depths of despair to the delights of discipleship.

Seek ye YHWH while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the man of iniquity his thoughts: and let him return unto YHWH; and to our God, for he will multiply to pardon. [Isaiah 55:6, 7]
